Awareness
When thinking of food pantries, people often assume they are only for the unemployed, homeless, or low-income households. However, our years of experience have revealed that today, help is needed for a variety of reasons:
- Single-parent income
- Divorce
- Health Issues
- Unexpected loss of Income
- Inflation
Did You Know?
- Did you know that the housekeeper who says good morning to you every day, only eats once a day because that is they can afford?
- Did you know that the nurse who just performed CPR and saved someone's life has a hard time sleeping because they are a single parent receiving no child support?
- Did you know that the top lab technician sleeps in their car due to excessively high alimony payments?
Facts:
- At least 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.
- The average living expenses for a single person in the US are $3,189 per month, $38,266 per year.
- The average monthly food expense for a family of 4 in the US is $900 to $1,200.
Since 2010, the primary aim of the Simple Truth Foundation has been to alleviate food insecurity in Central Florida. We achieve this goal through three main approaches:
- Offering consulting services to organizations interested in initiating a pantry or coordinating a food drive.
- Maintaining a pantry network to ensure pantry shelves remain stocked through bartering or negotiating food purchases.
- Organizing, implementing, and managing food pantries sponsored by corporations for their employees.
